Phantasmagoria vocal ensemble is a group of singers based at Cambridge University, formed to explore music both from around 1600 and from recent years, focusing especially on secular and lesser-known repertoire. All the singers are members of Cambridge chapel choirs, and have extensive solo experience on the operatic stage or on the concert platform.
The virtuosic and sensual madrigals of Claudio Monteverdi form a core part of our repertoire, but have been presented in the midst of works written much more recently, including works by contemporary composers Gavin Bryars, James Halliday and James Weeks. Forthcoming concerts will feature the première of a specially written work by Cambridge composer Graham Ross and music by Britten and Poulenc, as well as the first performances for several centuries of madrigals by the baroque composer Michelangelo Rossi.
